Qualifications             Successful candidates must have outstanding verbal and written

communication skills, a demonstrated experience in publication writing and editing, ability to produce video products for social media and websites, and an ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people through multiple modalities and platforms. A degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a closely related field along with relevant work experience is preferred. Two or more years of website/social media management experience is preferred.

Job Goal                    

The Communications & Public Relations Coordinator for the Siloam Springs School District  will be responsible for planning, developing, and managing strategies for proactive and positive public relations that inform, connect, and engage students, staff, parents, and  community members. 

 

Specific Job Duties/Requirements: 

 

  1. Promote positive communications with employees, media, the community, and the School Board regarding issues that impact the district
  2. Create systems and protocols for identifying, capturing, and sharing stories from across the district highlighting accomplishments, opportunities, goals, policies, activities, and events
  3. Coordinate continuity for the district’s branding and messaging
  4. Manage and coordinate the district’s use of social media
  5. Manage and coordinate the district’s website
  6. Assist with development, implementation, and analysis of customer opinion surveys and other means of gathering public feedback
  7. Develop relationships with local print, radio, and television on behalf of the district
  8. Coordinate recognition events for staff and students
  9. Work with district leadership to organize and prepare for media events: write, edit, and disseminate news releases, public announcements, talking points
  10. Serve as the primary media contact for the district
  11. Assist in planning, advertising, promoting, and managing district events
  12. Produce high quality, compelling news, and special interest communications for internal and external audiences
  13. Supervise digital communications and oversee/manage the district and building websites
  14. Ensure district communications portray key messages in alignment with the district’s mission, vision, and values and that they are shared/accessible across multiple platforms
  15. Develop and make presentations about district initiatives and accomplishments to a variety of audiences
  16. Manage media relations and communications in crisis situations, in conjunction with the Superintendent
  17. Attend School Board meetings and occasional community meetings, conferences, and workshops related to general school administration to enhance the public relations image of the district
  18. Establish and manage a communications budget, ensuring programs are effective and efficient
  19. Develop proficiency in the latest communication technologies appropriate to the job
  20. Maintain availability during off hours for coordinating communications in special situations
  21. Coordinate photography and videography at the district level for special events
  22. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

  5. Ability to complete a project from inception to completion with minimal supervision or direction
  6. Ability to design, prepare, edit, publish printed newsletters, e-newsletters, memos, blogs, or other social network communications
  7. Skill in Adobe or similar software is preferred  
  8. Ability to effectively present information on a one-to-one basis, to small and large groups of staff or community, the general public, and the School Board
  9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the Google Suite of products
  10. Knowledge of and skill with website creation and maintenance

 

District will provide professional leave and travel reimbursements to attend professional meetings and training as approved by the Superintendent.
